THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

'Helen is the woman I want in my life when the shit hits the fan' - Bryony Gordon

What do you do when your relationship suddenly ends? How do you cope when the cosy 'coupley' future you had planned disappears?

Join comedian Helen Thorn from The Scummy Mummies as she haphazardly takes the plunge into single life for the first time in twenty-two years。

Helen shares her own roller coaster journey from the initial shock of a surprise separation, the messy months hanging out in her PJs through to the highs of rediscovering online dating, tiny pants, rock-solid female friendships and the glorious joy of just being by herself。

With the help of relationship experts and an army of women "who know", Get Divorced, Be Happy will show you that going it alone isn't the end, it is just the beginning, and you will come out the other side, stronger, happier and goddamn sassier than ever before。

My first ever audio book - listened to it in the car on a long journey by myself and it captivated me。 I identified with a lot of her experiences, and she is truly inspirational。

I’m very happily married but I loved this book。

Thank youI loved reading this book!! It made me laugh out loud and shed a few tears。 Most of all it gave me hope and made me realise carrying anger is destructive!! It is my turn to be me😊

This is a good read for anyone newly separated。 Thorn describes her separation and first year as a single mum in considerable detail。 She has consulted experts and there is lots of useful information on everything from the legal and bureaucratic side of divorce to feeling better emotionally。 However it's her story and everyone's split is different - lots of the advice won't be relevant for everyone (for example, her child-free weekends come across as such a luxury to someone solo parenting witho This is a good read for anyone newly separated。 Thorn describes her separation and first year as a single mum in considerable detail。 She has consulted experts and there is lots of useful information on everything from the legal and bureaucratic side of divorce to feeling better emotionally。 However it's her story and everyone's split is different - lots of the advice won't be relevant for everyone (for example, her child-free weekends come across as such a luxury to someone solo parenting without a break)。 Sometimes the book comes across as if it's a self-help guide and I thought it should have been presented more as a biographical account of what she went through, which is what it is。 。。。more

Reading as a fan of Helen Thorn (with some concern from my husband 🤣) Well researched and full of heart。 Although the amount of alcohol bothered me a bit, I liked the level of honesty

Catriona Cory

Loved the positivity and a very easy read, but found the name dropping all a little distracting。 Some good advice though。

I’m reading this as a close friend is going through this。 It is so funny, moving and compassionate and I recommend it to anyone who is going through it or who has a friend who is that they’d like to understand and support more。

Such a fantastic read。 I have followed Helen Thorn on Instagram via Helen Wears a Size 18 and ScummieMummies for a while and absolutely love her。 She is hilarious and strong and a fabulously honest and loving woman and mum。 I may not be a single mum or in the process of divorce, but I absolutely loved reading about her experiences and there is so much you can take away from her experiences regardless。 It sounds awful to say that you 'enioy' reading about her year of separation and divorce or tha Such a fantastic read。 I have followed Helen Thorn on Instagram via Helen Wears a Size 18 and ScummieMummies for a while and absolutely love her。 She is hilarious and strong and a fabulously honest and loving woman and mum。 I may not be a single mum or in the process of divorce, but I absolutely loved reading about her experiences and there is so much you can take away from her experiences regardless。 It sounds awful to say that you 'enioy' reading about her year of separation and divorce or that it is 'funny', because obviously it was heartbreaking and horrendous, and Helen does talk about this and I definitely shed a tear or two and felt like I had been on an emotional rollercoaster, but Helen talks about the sisterhood of friends and dating post break up - there are so many laughs and tears。 It is impossible not to laugh and enjoy the read, despite the tough subject matter。 Plus there is so much sensible advice for any woman regardless of marital status - sort out your financial future as an individual, not just as part of a couple, sort your pension and take control of your income and outgoings, reevaluate direct debits and insurances and bills to get what you actually need at a better price, take time for yourself, do things you enjoy and love and have maybe lost along the way, love your body regardless of shape or size and gain self confidence, but also exercise for strength of body and mind doing something that is fun for you。。。。the list goes on。 I have taken lots of lovely advice。 If a friend is in the process of a breakup or divorce, this should be their bible! Gift it immediately! I am so glad that my first read of 2022 was this empowering book。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I love Helen and Ellie from their fantastic show Scummy Mummies and this book although obviously sad in places is also still very funny, and great at giving an insight into what separation and divorce is like。 There are lots of experts listed if people want to learn more about anything in particular such as legal advice, counselling or financial support。 Wishing her every happiness for the future。
